Using over 250,000 advanced computer simulations, an international team led by SISSA and several universities found that these primordial fields—billions of times weaker than a refrigerator magnet—leave detectable imprints on the filamentary structures connecting galaxies. The research, published in *Physical Review Letters*, establishes a new, lower upper limit for the strength of these fields, around 0.2 nano-gauss, and shows that including them in models produces a cosmic web that better matches observational data. published in Bioscience, warns of “perilous” times ahead, with current policies leaving the globe on track to see 2.7 degree peak warming by 2100, obliterating the international target made at the Paris Agreement to limit the global temperature increase to 1.5 degrees.\n\nAmong the key findings in the report:\n- The Earth’s average surface temperature is at an all-time high, with July 2024 seeing three hottest days ever recorded.\n- Populations of humans and ruminant livestock (cattle, sheep and goats) are at record levels, with the human population increasing by 200,000 people per day.\n- Of the 35 planetary vital signs tracked annually, 25 are at record levels.\n\nThe stark findings come as the first Global Nature Positive Summit is held in Sydney (8-10 October) and as international leaders prepare for the UN’s Climate Change Conference (COP 29) from 11-22 November in Baku, Azerbaijan.","link_original":"https://www.sydney.edu.au/news-opinion/news/2024/10/09/world-on-the-brink-of-an-irreversible-climate-disaster--scientis.html","status":2,"country":[],"sections":[{"id":100,"name":"Atmospheric We know more about the surface of Mars than about our own deep sea. The ocean contains the highest mountains on Earth and is home to countless mysterious sea creatures that have barely been studied. Due to this lack of knowledge, we underestimate the crucial role the ocean plays for the planet - and therefore also for humanity.\n\nThis book aims to change that. Based on the latest scientific insights, it seeks to immerse the reader, through storytelling, in the hidden beauty and complex workings of the ocean. The authors explain how ocean warming, acidification, overfishing, and pollution threaten not only its fragile flora and fauna, but also us.\n\nYet all is not lost: technological revolutions offer hope - if we act in time. The book explores how we can rise to the challenges. It contributes to advancing ocean knowledge and supporting global efforts towards a more sustainable and resilient ocean.","link_original":"https://www.academiapress.be/nl/unknown-sea","status":2,"country":[],"sections":[{"id":49,"name":"Oceans and seas"}],"root_section":{"id":108,"name":"Conserving Wild Nature"},"is_photo":true,"is_video":false,"is_large_font":false,"show_in_news_list":false,"url_to_show_in_news_list":"","location_filters":{"countries":[],"regions":[{"id":12,"name":"Global"}]},"filters":[{"id":8,"name":"Enlightenment","badge_name":"Enlightenment","show_badge":false,"children":[{"id":27,"name":"Publications","badge_name":"Publication","show_badge":false,"children":[]}],"all_children":false,"all_children_ids":"9,10,27,11,12"}]},{"id":"d43731ee-b5ad-4b8b-a1d4-d681b86a158c","slug":"the-upcoming-ida-seville-summit-2023-intends-to-promote-water-solutions-in-the-face-of-climate-change-5-18-october-2023-seville-spain-post","created_at":"2023-10-05T11:13:57Z","views":58,"name":"The upcoming IDA Seville Summit 2023 intends to promote Water Solutions in the Face of Climate Change (5-18 October 2023, Seville, Spain)","about":"The summit will delve into critical discussions on climate change adaptation, decarbonization of the water sector, and the integration of unconventional water resources for long-term water security","text":"The focus of the IDA Seville Summit is squarely on climate change adaptation, entailing in-depth discussions on the intricate interplay between mitigation and adaptation efforts.
