Researchers from the University of Miami Rosenstiel School, working with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, analyzed three decades of ocean and atmosphere observations from satellites, moored buoys, and drifting instruments. They found that stronger atmospheric winds have intensified near-surface currents, making them both faster and shallower. In the central equatorial Pacific, westward currents accelerated by about twenty percent, while poleward currents north and south of the equator increased by sixty and twenty percent, respectively. LanzaTech converts captured CO2 into alcohol, which Fraunhofer then transforms into natural fats via oil yeasts—without using GMOs. This innovation could revolutionize production in cosmetics, cleaning agents, and beyond by reducing deforestation and carbon emissions tied to palm oil farming. \n\nFollowing successful lab tests, pilot-scale production has begun at Fraunhofer’s CBP facility in Leuna, marking a key step toward industrial rollout. The transition from coal-fired power plants to renewables will take time and money, but the benefits will be worth the investment.","text":"Most traditional power grids depend on fossil fuels, which emit high levels of pollution. In the U.S., renewables produce just over 15% of utility-scale electricity, while coal and natural gas dominate. Sustainable grids use solar, wind, or hydro power, reducing emissions and preserving natural resources. They’re also more efficient and support future demand, especially from data centers, expected to double electricity use by 2030.\n\nModern grids integrate smart meters, battery storage, and automation. Barriers include outdated infrastructure, regulatory delays, and environmental costs of renewable production. Yet, decentralized systems and peer-to-peer trading offer resilience and energy independence.\n\nTo meet clean energy goals, the U.S. must add 60 GW of solar annually by 2030. Public investment and community efforts are crucial for overcoming challenges and creating a cleaner, more reliable power grid.","link_original":"https://www.bioenergyconsult.com/how-sustainable-grids-reduce-carbon-emissions-and-protect-natural-resources/","status":2,"country":[{"id":240,"name":"United States of America","icon":""}],"sections":[{"id":71,"name":"Utilities"}],"root_section":{"id":68,"name":"Sustainable Human Habitats"},"is_photo":false,"is_video":false,"is_large_font":false,"show_in_news_list":false,"url_to_show_in_news_list":"","location_filters":{"countries":[{"id":240,"name":"United States of America"}],"regions":[{"id":4,"name":"North America"}]},"filters":[]},{"id":"08798a81-8062-4fdb-b19c-eeb23eb5745f","slug":"inspace-manufacturing-and-resources-earth-and-planetary-exploration-applications-edited-by-v-hessel-jstoudemire-hmiyamoto-idfisk-wiley-2022-post","created_at":"2025-03-04T15:57:05.126255Z","views":20,"name":"In‐Space Manufacturing and Resources: Earth and Planetary Exploration Applications.
