By Ross P. Anderson, Sanaa Mughal and George O. However, the delicate and microscopic nature of their sub-cellular features affords early eukaryotes diminished preservation potential. Chemical biomarker signatures of eukaryotes and the genetics of living eukaryotes have emerged as complementary tools for reconstructing eukaryote ancestry. In this review, we argue that exceptionally preserved Proterozoic microfossils are critical to interpreting these complementary tools, providing crucial calibrations to molecular clocks and testing hypotheses of palaeoecology. We highlight recent research on their preservation and biomolecular composition that offers new ways to enhance their utility.\n\nPublished:21 August 2024https://doi.org/10.1098/rsos.240154","link_original":"https://royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rsos.240154","status":2,"country":[],"sections":[{"id":145,"name":"History of Earth: insights for the future"}],"root_section":{"id":107,"name":"Life-friendly Earth"},"is_photo":false,"is_video":false,"is_large_font":false,"show_in_news_list":false,"url_to_show_in_news_list":"","location_filters":{"countries":[],"regions":[{"id":12,"name":"Global"}]},"filters":[]},{"id":"4097ba4b-58f6-4f28-b88e-493ad2030bce","slug":"rpc-a-new-era-for-sustainability-consumer-products-the-eus-new-ecodesign-for-sustainable-products-regulation-espr-post","created_at":"2024-12-17T09:48:14.555411Z","views":32,"name":"RPC: A new era for sustainability consumer products: the EU’s new Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR)","about":"In July 2024 the ESPR entered into force setting a framework for new ecodesign rules in the EU. Although heavy soiling and mechanical pressure could reduce energy yields, experts believe technical solutions can minimize these risks.\n\nSwiss company Sun-Ways has completed the world’s first removable solar plant installed directly on an active railway line. Located in western Switzerland, the setup includes 48 photovoltaic modules, each rated at 385 W, and delivers a total capacity of 18 kW. The plant will supply 16 MWh of electricity annually to the public grid, just 500 meters away.\n\nThe Federal Office of Transport approved the project in October 2024, following extensive tests and evaluations. Sun-Ways plans further testing over the next three years, focusing on the durability of panel coatings, soiling levels, and the system’s influence on track infrastructure.","link_original":"https://www.railway.supply/en/removable-solar-panels-on-railway-tracks-launched-in-switzerland/","status":2,"country":[{"id":220,"name":"Switzerland","icon":""}],"sections":[{"id":88,"name":"Solar energy"}],"root_section":{"id":51,"name":"Industrial Revolution"},"is_photo":false,"is_video":false,"is_large_font":false,"show_in_news_list":false,"url_to_show_in_news_list":"","location_filters":{"countries":[{"id":220,"name":"Switzerland"}],"regions":[{"id":3,"name":"Europe"}]},"filters":[]},{"id":"51714d41-efff-4da5-8b72-aa63131a4c47","slug":"rainbow-air-helicopter-tours-post","created_at":"2025-08-19T14:27:06.615726Z","views":16,"name":"Rainbow Air Helicopter Tours","about":"The company offers the ultimate exposure to the beauty and power of Niagara Falls from the US side","text":"Rainbow Air Inc. is a premier helicopter sightseeing and charter service based in Niagara Falls, New York, operating since 1995.
