This study tested the importance of including biotic factors (trophic resource richness) in SDMs for 177 African bat species. Two models were built per species—one using only abiotic variables (noBIO-SDM) and one including biotic variables (BIO-SDM). BIO-SDMs consistently outperformed noBIO-SDMs (higher AUC values), and biotic predictors ranked as more important than abiotic ones in ~68% of species, including generalists. Over 80% of species showed changes in predicted distribution between models, especially in tropical forests and shrublands.
