Yet, we lack strong predictive models of grassland plant biomass, the primary source of carbon in grasslands. This lack of predictive ability may arise from the assumption of linear relationships between plant biomass and the environment and an underestimation of interactions of environmental variables. Using data from 116 grasslands on six continents, we show unimodal relationships between plant biomass and ecosystem characteristics, such as mean annual precipitation and soil nitrogen. Further, we found that soil nitrogen and plant diversity interacted in their relationships with plant biomass, such that plant diversity and biomass were positively related at low levels of nitrogen and negatively at elevated levels of nitrogen.","link_original":"https://www.nature.com/articles/s42003-025-07518-w","status":2,"country":[],"sections":[{"id":45,"name":"Grasslands"}],"root_section":{"id":108,"name":"Conserving Wild Nature"},"is_photo":false,"is_video":false,"is_large_font":false,"show_in_news_list":false,"url_to_show_in_news_list":"","location_filters":{"countries":[],"regions":[{"id":12,"name":"Global"}]},"filters":[{"id":8,"name":"Enlightenment","badge_name":"Enlightenment","show_badge":false,"children":[{"id":27,"name":"Publications","badge_name":"Publication","show_badge":false,"children":[]}],"all_children":false,"all_children_ids":"9,10,27,11,12"}]},{"id":"27c520b8-1726-42e9-9313-7e25842593bf","slug":"atlantic-international-research-centre-air-centre-post","created_at":"2025-05-01T16:53:31Z","views":45,"name":"Atlantic International Research Centre (AIR Centre)","about":"An international collaborative framework to address global challenges and local priorities in the Atlantic Ocean.","text":"It promotes an integrative approach to climate and ocean issues in the Atlantic, supported by emerging technological innovations and advances in space and data science, and through international cooperation. \r\n\r\nPresently, 16 states (or regions) cooperate through AIR Centre initiatives: Portugal, Azores, Spain, Nigeria, United Kingdom, Cabo Verde, Bahia (Brazil), South Africa, Morocco, Angola, Colombia, France, Guatemala, Peru, S. These waters are fundamental to the survival of humans and thousands of species that depend on them.","text":"Inland waters are bodies of water located away from coastal areas. They include rivers, lakes, wetlands, reservoirs, groundwater, and even saltwater systems like the Dead Sea. These waters can be fresh, salty, or brackish and may be permanent, seasonal, or intermittent. Though they make up just 2.7% of the Earth's hydrosphere, inland waters play a vital role in biodiversity, ecosystem function, and human activity. They support life by cycling nutrients, providing habitats, and offering water for irrigation, livestock, drinking, and energy. Surface waters (like rivers and lakes) and underground waters (like aquifers) are essential for human development. Aquifers, in particular, supply large amounts of clean drinking water due to natural filtration. Inland waters are vulnerable to pollution from both natural and human sources, making their conservation critical for environmental health and sustainability.","link_original":"https://www.thedailyeco.com/what-are-inland-waters-22.html#:~:text=Inland%20waters%20are%20permanent%20bodies%20of%20fresh%20water,are%20characterized%20by%20permanent%2C%20seasonal%2C%20or%20intermittent%20flooding.","status":2,"country":[],"sections":[{"id":112,"name":"Inland surface waters"}],"root_section":{"id":108,"name":"Conserving Wild Nature"},"is_photo":false,"is_video":false,"is_large_font":false,"show_in_news_list":false,"url_to_show_in_news_list":"","location_filters":{"countries":[],"regions":[{"id":12,"name":"Global"}]},"filters":[]},{"id":"282bd374-350b-432b-9878-fe1c45c7a7eb","slug":"gsed-online-campus-for-global-citizens-post","created_at":"2025-04-07T04:25:30.650244Z","views":40,"name":"GSED Online Campus for Global Citizens","about":"An e-learning platform on Global Citizenship Education by APCEIU","text":"The platform provides GCED online courses for educators, special lecture series, case videos of GCED initiatives, and GCED-related teaching & learning materials.
