It builds bridges across borders while fueling populism and great-power competition. The politics of trade and open borders are divided, with competing narratives about globalization’s virtues and vices. Anthea Roberts and Nicolas Lamp examine six key perspectives on globalization, from the win-win view to the pessimistic lose-lose outlook, and others focusing on specific winners and losers. In this contribution, this paper re-evaluates the rehabilitation of the site of the former Vanda Station, a New Zealand outpost occupied from 1969 to 1991. It describes the design and implementation of the restoration, which included the removal of many tonnes of contaminated soils and groundwater, along with the post-action monitoring of the site. \r\n\r\nThe goal is to determine where challenges to the use of recent guidelines would have arisen. Based on a wide variety of primary sources and fieldwork, including in-person interviews and participant observations, this collection contributes to both scholarly and policy discussions around the governance and economic development roles of local entrepreneurs, transnational firms, civil society groups, local communities, and government agencies in Africa’s natural resource sectors. Natural Resource–Based Development in Africa explores the impact that these actors have on regional trends such as resource nationalism and local procurement policies as well as grassroots-related issues such as poverty, livelihoods, gender equity, development, and human security.","link_original":"https://utppublishing.com/doi/book/10.3138/9781487505219","status":2,"country":[],"sections":[{"id":154,"name":"Africa"}],"root_section":{"id":107,"name":"Life-friendly Earth"},"is_photo":true,"is_video":false,"is_large_font":false,"show_in_news_list":true,"url_to_show_in_news_list":"https://onegeo.com/bucket/media/section_publication_photo/2cd1dbfa-4f52-4e5e-a81a-9fc5c107c466","location_filters":{"countries":[],"regions":[]},"filters":[{"id":8,"name":"Enlightenment","badge_name":"Enlightenment","show_badge":false,"children":[{"id":10,"name":"Books","badge_name":"Book","show_badge":false,"children":[]}],"all_children":false,"all_children_ids":"9,10,27,11,12"}]},{"id":"f6a55c6e-1b00-408a-a0f7-1c5fceb910e1","slug":"ukraine-at-cop30-post","created_at":"2025-10-20T11:51:36.361440Z","views":38,"name":"Ukraine at COP30","about":"Despite the Russian war, Ukraine continues actively working on the implementation of climate and environmental initiatives and will participate in the United Nations International Climate Conference COP30, taking place 10-21 November 21, 2025.","text":"Ukraine is opening its pavilion at the conference for the fourth time.
