Of the 47 potential variables examined, the cay-to-reef area ratio and minimum significant wave heights emerged as the strongest predictors, with larger ratios and smaller wave heights generally associated with lower geomorphic activity. These findings highlight the complex interplay between reef geomorphology, sediment supply, and hydrodynamic forces in shaping cay stability. It includes the variety of species and genetic differences that maintain ecosystem balance and provide food, medicine, and technology. Human activities like habitat loss, pollution, and urbanization threaten biodiversity, causing species decline and ecosystem breakdown. Protecting biodiversity involves conserving natural habitats through laws and protected areas, as well as community-led efforts like indigenous land management and sustainable farming. Urban green spaces and sustainable fisheries also support biodiversity. Climate change, driven by fossil fuel use, poses a serious threat, making emission reduction, renewable energy, and carbon sequestration critical. In doing so, Bateman reveals the largely secret role of military space technologies in late–Cold War US defense strategy and foreign relations.\r\n\r\nIn contrast to existing narratives, Weapons in Space shows how tension over the role of military space technologies in American statecraft was a central source of SDI's controversy, even more so than questions of technical feasibility. By detailing the participation of Western European countries in SDI research and development, Bateman reframes space militarization in the 1970s and 1980s as an international phenomenon. He further reveals that even though SDI did not come to fruition, it obstructed diplomatic efforts to create new arms control limits in space.", "link_original": "https://mitpress.mit.edu/9780262547369/weapons-in-space/", "status": 2, "country": [], "sections": [ { "id": 236, "name": "Space technologies" } ], "root_section": { "id": 51, "name": "Industrial Revolution" }, "is_photo": true, "is_video": false, "is_large_font": false, "show_in_news_list": false, "url_to_show_in_news_list": "", "location_filters": { "countries": [], "regions": [ { "id": 12, "name": "Global" } ] }, "filters": [ { "id": 8, "name": "Enlightenment", "badge_name": "Enlightenment", "show_badge": false, "children": [ { "id": 10, "name": "Books", "badge_name": "Book", "show_badge": false, "children": [] } ], "all_children": false, "all_children_ids": "9,10,27,11,12" } ] }, { "id": "78ef4a01-51fe-42a7-a4bc-ba9c1c8ca717", "slug": "wearedevelopers-world-congress-2025-9-11-july-berlin-germany-post", "created_at": "2025-07-09T10:13:40Z", "views": 44, "name": "WeAreDevelopers World Congress 2025 (9-11 July, Berlin, Germany)", "about": "The largest gathering of software innovators, tech leaders, and decision-makers shaping the future of AI-powered technology.\r\n15,000+ developers, 8,000+ companies, 1,600+ desision-makers, 500+ speakers, 40,000+ SQM Tech Expo", "text": "Every year, the WeAreDevelopers World Congress brings together software developers and tech decision-makers from around the world to discuss and learn about the latest trends and innovations shaping our world.
