"name": "Eos: How Internal Waves Transport Energy Thousands of Miles Across the Ocean, by Nathaniel Scharping",
"about": "For the first time, researchers modeled energy fluxes from these large-scale underwater waves in and around the Southern Ocean.",
"text": "Both winds and tides inject energy into the ocean. Much of that energy is then transported up to thousands of miles by internal waves: large-scale underwater waves that can travel between ocean basins. Quantifying the amount of energy transported by internal waves and assessing their dynamics are difficult given their location and scale. Still, the question is important because internal wave dynamics interact with the global climate and underwater ecosystems by influencing currents, ocean mixing, and more.\n\nLi et al. used the LLC4320 configuration of the MIT General Circulation Model to better understand meridional internal wave fluxes into and through the Southern Ocean. The modeling allowed the authors to estimate how much internal wave energy, measured in gigawatts, is brought into and exported from the Southern Ocean and to assess the effects of various bathymetric and hydrographic features on internal wave fluxes.",

The report analyzes key trends in coal power capacity and tracks various stages of capacity development including planned retirements. This provides key insights into the status of the global phaseout of coal power and evaluates progress towards the world’s climate targets and commitments. \n\nThe data comes from GEM’s Global Coal Plant Tracker, an online database updated biannually, with partial quarterly supplements, that identifies and maps every known coal-fired generating unit and every new unit proposed since January 1, 2010 (30 MW and larger). \n\nGlobal Energy Monitor's data serves as a vital international reference point used by organizations including the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, International Energy Agency, and the United Nations, as well as global media outlets.",

"about": "Trilobite body size evolution during the Cambrian and Ordovician was episodically controlled by marine oxygen levels, not Cope's rule, implying oxygen's dominant role in early animal evolution.",
"text": "Body size greatly affects how organisms interact with their environments. However, the macroevolutionary patterns of body size across many major metazoan clades and their constraining mechanisms remain elusive. A new high-resolution body size dataset covering 2435 species from 1091 genera of Cambrian and Ordovician trilobites reveals that body size evolution changes episodically, with three marked reductions in size. Such a pattern rules out a persistent Cope’s rule dynamic. Rather, we find a strong temporal link between body size changes and major fluctuations in marine redox, supporting the hypothesis that marine oxygen levels exerted a primary control on the tempo and mode of trilobite body size evolution. These further imply a dominant role for marine oxygen in early animal evolution.",

"text": "Bochum, Germany, is constructing new buildings with a geothermal heating project using water from abandoned coal mine shafts for emissions-free heating and cooling, set to be completed by 2027. The project near the drilling site has garnered enthusiasm from Zetcon, an international engineering firm. The initiative repurposes the old coal mine at the MARK 51°7 site for sustainable energy. Initial drilling and testing have shown promising results, with plans to use extracted water for a heat pump, providing emissions-free heating. Bochum aims to replicate this geothermal project in other disused mines globally. Additionally, the city is converting abandoned mines into a Mine Thermal Energy Storage (MTES) system, enhancing sustainability in urban planning and energy solutions.",

"text": "BlueWeave Consulting estimates that the Global Non-Metallic Mineral Products Market was valued at USD 13.36 billion in 2023 and is expected to grow to USD 15.1 billion by 2030, at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.22%. In terms of volume, the market is projected to increase from 132.76 million metric tons in 2023 to 150.54 million metric tons by 2030, with a CAGR of 7.03%.\n\nThis growth is primarily driven by increasing construction activities around the world, especially in emerging economies experiencing rapid urbanization. The demand for materials such as cement, lime, and concrete remains strong due to ongoing infrastructure development and housing needs. In addition, the shift toward sustainable construction is encouraging greater use of non-metallic materials because of their lower environmental impact.",

In addition, Blue Origin is advancing space tourism through suborbital flights, allowing civilians to experience space. Beyond transportation, the company explores ways to utilize space resources, including lunar materials for energy and fuel, and water ice extraction for long-term missions.\n\nThe company also emphasizes education and inspiration encouraging younger generations to pursue STEAM careers. With safety as its highest priority, Blue Origin envisions a future where millions live and work in space to restore and sustain Earth.",

With the ocean economy already supporting over 100 million jobs and projected to exceed $5 trillion by 2050, it offers major economic and environmental opportunities.\n\nIFC’s Blue Finance Guidelines Version 2.0 help investors and financial institutions identify and structure credible blue investments—such as blue bonds, loans, and sustainability-linked instruments—across areas like water security, marine conservation, plastics recycling, shipping, and aquaculture. "text": "Blockchain technology is rapidly expanding across industries—from finance and healthcare to manufacturing and entertainment—with the global market projected to grow from $31.28 billion in 2024 at a 90.1% CAGR through 2030. As demand rises for skilled professionals, blockchain certifications and certificate programs offer a direct path to gaining expertise and credibility in this emerging field.\n\nA blockchain certification validates specialized knowledge through exams, while a certificate program provides structured training and practical experience. Both can strengthen a resume and open doors to roles like developer, architect, consultant, or auditor.\n\nBeginner-friendly options such as INSEAD’s Blockchain Revolution Specialization and the University at Buffalo’s Blockchain program on Coursera teach key concepts including smart contracts, cryptography, and decentralized systems, helping learners prepare for certifications from organizations like the Blockchain Council.",

"text": "Blockchain is a decentralized digital ledger that securely records data in linked “blocks,” ensuring transparency, security, and immutability without the need for a central authority. Originally created for Bitcoin, it now drives innovation across industries including finance, healthcare, and supply chain management.\n\nEach block contains transaction data, a timestamp, and the cryptographic hash of the previous block, making records tamper-proof. Blockchain’s key features—decentralization, immutability, transparency, and automation through smart contracts—enable trusted, self-executing transactions validated by consensus mechanisms like Proof of Work or Proof of Stake.\n\nIts applications range from faster cross-border payments and transparent supply chains to secure medical data sharing, digital identities, and NFTs. Despite challenges such as scalability, energy use, and regulatory uncertainty, advances in Layer 2 solutions and cross-chain technologies promise greater efficiency.",
