"about": "Intertidal areas are frequently exposed to different water temperatures, depths, and even exposed to air for multiple hours a day. These zones are connected to the ocean and are susceptible to major changes such as ocean warming and ocean acidification.",
"text": "Maine’s 5,300-mile coastline hosts diverse intertidal ecosystems vital to fisheries like soft-shell clams, mussels, lobsters, and seaweed. These zones, found between high and low tide, face constant environmental shifts and are vulnerable to ocean warming, acidification, and biodiversity changes. Soft-shell clams rely on these habitats, especially lower intertidal areas rich in nutrients. Intertidal zones connect with estuaries—where rivers meet the sea—such as Casco, Muscongus, and Penobscot Bays. These estuaries support spawning fish like alewives and salmon and are impacted by human activity, with 34% of Maine’s population living along the coast. Pollution from human activity threatens water quality, fisheries, and subsistence harvesters, including the Passamaquoddy people. Their restoration of alewives (siqonomeqok), a keystone species, helps sustain broader ecosystems and cultural practices.",

It demonstrates that Australia’s traditional energy resources will have a central role in supporting the transition to net zero emissions and contributing to our future energy security. It also highlights the nation’s huge potential to provide low carbon solutions for our region including deployment of CCS and production of renewable hydrogen and hydrogen products.\n\nAECR 2025 provides resource estimates of the nation’s non-renewable energy commodity resources as well as an overview of projects and developments related to clean energy technologies being developed in Australia to meet emission reduction targets. Non-renewable energy commodity resource estimates are as at the end of 2023 and are grouped according to commodity type, reserves and annual production.",

Many remain cautiously optimistic about growth, with 67% moderately confident in their three-to-five-year prospects, though only 52% forecast revenue growth in 2025. Most MNCs are committed to China, with 94% still investing and 75% planning to maintain or increase investment. \n\nBased on insights from 137 China-based executives at MNCs operating in China, and in the backdrop of increased competition, deepening localisation, and developments in digitalization and AI, the 2025 MNC China Outlook Report not only reveals MNCs’ economic growth outlook, but also the strategic shifts and operational changes that they are undertaking to adapt to a changing market.",

To do this, we need to rethink our current economic system, question the idea that economic growth is crucial, and consider different models that put human well-being, autonomy, and ecological health first. This will mean changing how we consume and work and what values our society prioritises.\n\nThe International Degrowth Network - a network of 70+ organisations and over 50,000 individuals - aims to create a community for like-minded individuals and organisations to work together and create spaces where alternatives can thrive.",

"text": "Although current food systems have largely kept pace with population growth, ensuring sufficient caloric intake for many, they are the single most influential driver of planetary boundary transgression. More than half of the world's population struggles to access healthy diets, leading to devastating consequences for public health, social equity, and the environment. Although hunger has declined in some regions, recent increases linked to expanding conflicts and emergent climate change impacts have reversed this positive trend. Obesity rates continue to rise globally, and the pressure exerted by food systems on planetary boundaries shows no signs of abating. In this moment of increasing instability, food systems still offer an unprecedented opportunity to build the resilience of environmental, health, economic, and social systems, and are uniquely placed to enhance human wellbeing while also contributing to Earth-system stability.",

Many tourism providers use greenwashing—marketing themselves as eco-friendly without real accountability or impact. \n\nThis article, published on the Earth Changers website, provides a comprehensive look at the issue of greenwashing in tourism. It explores what greenwashing is, why it happens, and the problems it causes. The piece highlights real-world examples, explains how to recognize misleading sustainability claims, and outlines the \"sins\" commonly associated with greenwashing. It also examines the role of certification and accreditation in promoting genuine sustainability, with a focus on the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), and offers practical advice on what travelers can do when they encounter greenwashing in the travel industry.",

"text": "As extreme weather threatens the lives of hundreds of millions of people, how can the world best respond?\n\nFaced with these migrations, the international community seems incapable of agreeing on defining new protection and compensation. Currently there is no clear definition of a ‘climate refugee’, and climate refugees are not covered by the 1951 Refugee Convention. The spectre of waves of unrestrained migration is brandished for populist purposes to justify the locking of borders.\n\nBut, in the absence of a global response, the countries and regions most affected by the climate change/migration problem are taking the initiative.\n\nThis documentary explores these challenges through the prism of individual human stories and innovative initiatives in Asia, the Pacific and Latin America. In the long term, they could become models, well beyond their borders.\n\nProduction: Babel Doc\nDirector: François-Xavier Trégan",

"text": "The video explores how Artificial Intelligence is transforming Earth and climate sciences, empowering us to understand, monitor, and anticipate complex environmental and social phenomena at scale. It highlights AI’s role in mapping crop health, analyzing ocean biogeochemistry, estimating air quality, and predicting extreme weather events. Advances in explainable and causal machine learning help interpret these models, turning data into actionable insights. As climate risks grow, AI supports urban sustainability, tracks human displacement drivers, and measures humanitarian impacts. Combining satellite data, socioeconomic indicators, and causal discovery, the video shows how AI strengthens evidence-based policymaking and our ability to tackle global challenges. It argues that integrating AI with Earth observation and domain expertise is key to resilience and sustainable development.",

"text": "Criminal activity in the mining, minerals and metals industries includes illegal mining and smuggling, theft (including adulteration and substitution), illegal trade in conflict minerals, fakes, fraud and environmental crime (e.g. pollution, contamination and degradation of the land, air and water). \r\n\r\nThe types of criminal activity involving geological commodities range from the very small-scale local theft of materials, to illegal artisanal small-scale mining, to large-scale organized criminal activity and finally to crimes which may have a more global effect through terrorism. Commonly, commodities will either be extracted illegally and sold or legally produced materials can be stolen and then effectively sold back into the minerals supply chain. . As the scale of these crime increases, so does the important role that forensic geologists can play in disrupting the criminal activity.",
