"about": "The EU operates largely in accordance with the principles of consensus democracy. Amid the recent growth of far-right parties at both the national and European level, this approach has led to the increased participation of such forces in EU institutions.",
"text": "Analysis of key actors at the EU level shows that since no later than the 2024 European elections, representatives of far-right parties have been involved in all major EU decisions. The centres of their influence are the European Council and the Council of the EU, where they participate as leaders or partners in national governments. But they are increasingly becoming more influential in the European Parliament, which has shifted to the right and where alternative majorities are now possible. At the same time, significant differences remain between the far-right parties. Ultimately, the extent of their influence and which far-right trend predominates within the EU system depends mainly on the largest force in European politics – the European People’s Party.",

"about": "Washington must align ambitious ends with constrained means and proactively embrace an inevitable multipolar world",
"text": "The United States took a leading role in reenvisioning the world order 80 years ago. Today, it should do so again. A more fragmented world with many competing regional and global powers awaits. The emerging multipolar system will require U.S. leaders to think more about building flexible coalitions than fixed alliances, which will increase the complexity of the task ahead. Multipolarity need not be a death sentence for America. If approached strategically, multipolarity could actually amplify some U.S. strengths and offset key weaknesses and vulnerabilities. This will require a series of tough discussions about resources and priorities, but that is unavoidable. The time is ripe, therefore, for the United States to proactively embrace multipolarity.\r\n\r\nThis essay is part of the New Visions for Grand Strategy Project. It brought scholars from across the political and ideological spectrum to discuss what the future has in store for the United States in the world.",

The Convention entered into force on 17 May 2004.\n\nExposure to Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) can lead to serious health effects including certain cancers, birth defects, dysfunctional immune and reproductive systems, greater susceptibility to disease and damages to the central and peripheral nervous systems. Given their long range transport, no one government acting alone can protect its citizens or its environment from POPs.\n\nStockholm Convention is a global treaty to protect human health and the environment from chemicals that remain intact in the environment for long periods, become widely distributed geographically, accumulate in the fatty tissue of humans and wildlife, and have harmful impacts on human health or on the environment.",

"text": "An analysis of global freshwater resources reveals that human activity has drastically altered the planet's freshwater cycle, surpassing pre-industrial boundaries by the mid-twentieth century, with exceptional conditions now more frequent and widespread. Conducted over a long timescale with a suitable baseline, the study, published in Nature Water, underscores how human pressures like dam construction, large-scale irrigation, and global warming have jeopardized freshwater resources' ability to regulate vital ecological and climatic processes. The study compared pre-industrial conditions (1661-1860) to the industrial era (1861-2005) using hydrological models, finding a doubling of the global land area with deviations in streamflow and soil moisture. Co-author Lan Wang Erlandsson stresses the urgency of understanding these changes to safeguard water resources and biodiversity.",

Built in three main stages, the first was an earthwork with Aubrey holes, the second added 82 bluestones from Wales forming a double circle and aligned entrance, and the third brought Sarsen stones from the Marlborough Downs arranged in an outer circle and five trilithons in a horseshoe. After 1500 BC, the bluestones were rearranged into the circle and horseshoe seen today. "about": "Researchers are developing emergency injectable bandages that could decrease bleeding time by as much as 70% and revolutionize the future of trauma care.",
"text": "These injectable bandages use nanosilicate clay particles to speed up blood clotting and control severe internal bleeding, especially in situations where traditional compression is not possible. By combining the particles with materials such as expanding foam or micro-ribbons, the solution can be delivered directly into a wound, where it activates with body heat, expands to fill the space, and stays in place to promote rapid clot formation. \n\nThe approach reduces clotting time from several minutes to just one to two minutes, significantly improving survival chances during the critical “golden hour” after injury. Designed to be simple and self-applicable, the technology could be used by first responders or even injured individuals themselves. By preventing uncontrolled blood loss more effectively than current methods, these materials have the potential to transform trauma care and save a substantial number of lives.",

"about": "Peter and Christine Muema from Machakos, Kenya, boosted yields on their 2-acre farm by adopting planting basins. This simple method doubled harvests, improved income, funded school fees, and inspired neighbours to embrace the technique for better farming.",
"text": "Previously relying on hired oxen for ploughing, married couple often planted late and saw modest yields. After losing access to oxen, they switched to planting basins: Peter dug the holes while Christine planted and covered seeds—finishing the whole farm in just two days. Despite planting maize late, their harvest doubled. Encouraged, Peter now plans to dig larger, better-organized basins before the rains to capture more moisture, using soil and terraces to prevent flooding and mulch to retain water throughout the season. The improved yields have allowed them to pay school fees for their sons, feed the family, open a market kiosk, and start a poultry project. The reduced labour also needs free time for other income-generating activities. Their success has inspired neighbouring farmers to learn and adopt the method, spreading innovation and boosting community resilience.",

"text": "The book explores the intersection of climate change, border militarization, and environmental justice. Miller connects the dots between climate-ravaged communities, corporations profiting from border security, and emerging movements for sustainability. The narrative highlights the impact of global warming on communities, the business of border fortification, and the growing militarized divisions between different socio-economic and environmental conditions. The book emphasizes the urgent need for reimagining relationships in the face of climate-driven migration and serves as a call to action in the post-Paris Agreement era. Praise from reviewers underscores the significance of Miller's work in addressing the profound challenges posed by climate change and migration.",

By fostering collaboration between countries, governments, industry, and civil society, these alliances promote renewable energy deployment, energy efficiency, and sustainable technologies such as hydrogen, photovoltaics, and wind power. They support pilot projects, knowledge exchange, and regulatory frameworks while addressing country-specific challenges, from fossil fuel dependence to grid integration. \n\nThrough this approach, partnerships enable industrial and urban decarbonization, strengthen market access for innovative technologies, and generate economic growth, ultimately creating a resilient, equitable, and climate-friendly global energy system.",

"text": "Peter Godfrey emphasizes the need for global market reforms to accelerate the transition. Godfrey highlights the dominance of fossil fuels, accounting for over 80% of global energy consumption, and suggests that incumbent oil and gas companies, even the most progressive, won't drive the necessary changes. He proposes regulatory measures to separate the balance sheets of traditional energy and clean energy projects, potentially incentivizing the transition. Additionally, he advocates for a Circular Economy Revenue Tax (CERT) on resource exploiters and traders to promote resource efficiency and recycling projects. Godfrey believes these measures could significantly advance the pace of the energy transition. Failure to take action, he warns, could jeopardize both economic wealth and quality of life.",

The evaluation reveals that while the pandemic placed immense pressure on global systems, it also spurred unprecedented levels of co-operation, innovation and resource mobilisation. It highlights the importance of flexibility, local leadership and timely support, while also noting where incoherence and missed opportunities limited impact. This report offers a system-wide perspective – one of the few of its kind – capturing critical lessons to strengthen future responses to global crises. It is a valuable resource for policymakers, development professionals, humanitarian actors, and anyone seeking to understand how the international community can act more effectively in times of emergency.",

In times of economic hardship and increased competition, innovativeness and the demonstration of key abilities are essential to the success and resilience of MNCs. \n\nIn her research, Nele Jacobs adopts a theory-based approach to examine the interplay between a firm’s perceived strategic orientations, innovativeness, special corporate abilities, and consumer responses in an international context. "name": "Strategic projects under the European Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA)",
"about": "The list of the strategic projects under the CRMA officially approved by te European Commission in the EU, as of 25 March 2025, and outside of the EU, as of 4 June 2025.",
"text": "The Commission has adopted a list of 47 Strategic Projects to boost domestic strategic raw material capacities, which will in turn strengthen the European raw materials value chain and diversify sources of supply. The new Strategic Projects mark an important milestone in the implementation of the CRMA, which aims to ensure European extraction, processing and recycling of strategic raw materials meet 10%, 40% and 25% of EU's demand by 2030, respectively. By helping Europe meet these targets, the new Strategic Projects contribute significantly to Europe's green and digital transitions, while supporting Europe's defence industry and aerospace industries.\r\n\r\nThe EC adopted the first list of 13 Strategic Projects on strategic raw materials located outside of the EU, incl. in overseas countries or territories. These Projects will diversify the EU's sources of supply and increase economic security. At the same time, the projects are designed to boost local value creation in third countries.",
