"text": "Geoheritage and geotourism sites preserve vital records of the Earth’s history and support sustainable development. However, many of these sites face growing threats from mining, industrial expansion, and weak governance, particularly in resource-rich regions such as Africa. \r\n\r\nThis study reviews global strategies for protecting geoheritage from mining and identifies lessons relevant to Nigeria and other African nations. Using a qualitative, integrative literature review, evidence is synthesized from international conventions, legal frameworks, and case studies across five continents. Successful approaches, such as the UNESCO Global Geoparks Program and the World Heritage Convention, demonstrate the importance of clear legislation, strong institutions, and community participation. Nevertheless, enforcement gaps, limited funding, and low public awareness continue to undermine protection efforts.",

"about": "The government has made new rules for climbing Everest not just for permits, but also for safety standards, environmental responsibilities, and climbing requirements.",
"text": "Before these new laws came into effect, climbing Everest was often disorganized and poorly managed. In the spring season of 2023 alone, 478 permits were issued, but the actual number of climbers reached around 600. Sadly, 17 climbers lost their lives that season, and 5 others went missing. The overcrowding became a global concern when shocking images of long queues of climbers stuck in the “death zone” spread across the internet.\n\nNew Everest Climbing Rules and Regulations are designed to make the journey safer, more organized, and more respectful to the mountain and its surroundings. They also cover the safety measures being put in place, such as the role of certified guides and medical checks for climbers.\n\nClimbing Everest has never been cheap, and starting in 2026/27, the overall cost of the journey is going up even more. With new fee structures and added requirements, climbers should be prepared for higher financial commitments across every stage of the expedition.",

"text": "EU Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič is set to meet with his G7 counterparts to address mounting uncertainty over new U.S. tariff threats after a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling prompted President Donald Trump to announce a new 15 % global tariff on imports. The meeting aims to clarify what the tariff developments mean for the EU-U.S. trade relationship, restore stability and predictability, and explore collective responses within the G7 framework. Brussels is pushing for clarity on how existing trade commitments will be honoured, given the impact on transatlantic trade and legislative processes in the European Parliament. The discussions also reflect broader concerns about unpredictable tariff measures and their potential disruption of global commerce and supply chains.",

"text": "Modern scientists use a computer to complete or extend classical music pieces by famous composers. Can one discern between these creations and authentic works? Are music and AI now inseparably intertwined?\r\nThe disparity between what human ingenuity achieves and what computers simulate, even when guided by brilliant minds in their field, remains considerable. Computers can replicate the principles of composition and historical styles. Yet, great composers defy conventions and innovate styles—that’s their mandate.\r\nAI can manipulate auditory phenomena to convey emotions from its algorithms to our senses. However, machines lack emotion.\r\nCertainly, computers already significantly aid the musical process. They streamline the tedious tasks of notation, recording, and distributing compositions, identify obvious errors, and even refine singers' intonation. However, what they lack is the uniquely human ability to encapsulate life and death, love and loss, purely through soundwaves.",

"text": "Ecologies of a Storied Planet in the Anthropocene is a tour de force. With transdisciplinarity and theoretical lucidity, it rethinks the Anthropocene from a material ecocritical perspective, envisioning innovative modes of knowledge for deeper understandings of Anthropocene ecologies. Focusing on nonhuman agencies, Serpil Oppermann shows in fascinating detail how to better imagine an ecological future on our storied planet that has suffered enormously from an anthropocentric mindset.",

"text": "Heathrow Airport's daily fuel demand for 1,300 flights prompts a shift towards sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) and hydrogen to achieve global net-zero goals. Challenges include doubts about SAF's cost-effectiveness and large-scale hydrogen production. Initiatives by Air Liquide and Universal Hydrogen explore the viability of hydrogen, addressing infrastructure costs and proposing modular liquid hydrogen transport. While hydrogen holds promise for regional flights, challenges remain in its storage and mainstream adoption. The aviation industry grapples with the path to achieving net-zero goals and the economic feasibility of hydrogen-fueled aircraft on a larger scale.",

"text": "Green parties, once on the fringes, now play a significant role in mainstream politics worldwide, especially in Europe. Evolving from single-issue environmentalists into comprehensive political entities, they hold key government positions in countries like Germany. Yet, internal divisions exist within the movement, particularly on topics like nuclear energy, military engagement, and coalitions with other political parties. Green parties emphasize ecological sustainability, grassroots democracy, social justice, and nonviolence. They are well-positioned to influence policy in areas like climate change. Despite internal divisions, they have adapted to electoral politics and are becoming a political fixture in Europe. Their ability to address the concerns of working-class voters and the economic impact of climate policies will be crucial in maintaining their influence.",

Through extensive data analysis spanning centuries and countries, the author uncovers crucial economic and social patterns, revolutionizing debates on wealth and inequality. While modern growth has mitigated some apocalyptic predictions, deep-rooted structures persist, with returns on capital outpacing economic growth. This imbalance poses significant threats to democratic values, yet historical precedent suggests that political action can address these inequalities.",

"text": "Every year on November 28, Red Planet Day celebrates humanity’s enduring fascination with Mars and commemorates the launch of Mariner 4, the first mission to send back close-up images of the planet’s surface. This milestone transformed our understanding of Mars, shifting it from a world of imagined canals to a cold, cratered, and complex planet shaped by ancient water, shifting climates, and geological mysteries. Today, Red Planet Day highlights how far exploration has come—from early flybys to advanced rovers, orbiters, and even the first powered flight on another world with Ingenuity. It also underscores the importance of continued research, education, and technological innovation as space agencies and private companies work toward future sample-return missions and, ultimately, human exploration. Red Planet Day invites us to celebrate scientific curiosity, reflect on decades of discovery, and imagine the possibilities that await on our nearest planetary neighbor.",

"about": "The UK government has allocated £200 million ($272 million) to the Acorn carbon capture and storage (CCS) project in St Fergus, Scotland, to support its Final Investment Decision. Additionally, it will finance the Viking CCS project in the Humber region.",
"text": "The UK government has invested £200 million in the Acorn CCS project in St Fergus, Scotland—a joint venture by Storegga, Shell UK, Harbour Energy, and North Sea Midstream Partners. The project aims to capture CO₂ from heavy industry and store it 2.5 km beneath the North Sea using repurposed pipelines. It marks a major step toward Scotland's carbon capture infrastructure and the UK's broader CCS goals.\n\nAlongside Acorn, the government also committed to support the Viking CCS project in England’s Humber region. Together, the two could capture up to 18 million tonnes of CO₂ annually, contributing to the UK’s legally binding 2050 net-zero target, while creating thousands of skilled jobs.",
