"name": "healthcare-in-europe.com: Robot-assisted surgery in Europe: high tech between scalpel and legislation",
"about": "The use of surgical robots offers a wide range of possibilities, but in Europe the technology is often unable to reach its full potential. Dr. med. Christoph Wandhöfer explains why.",
"text": "Robot-assisted surgery is considered one of the most promising developments in modern medicine. It enables precise, minimally invasive procedures that can speed up recovery. But its true potential goes far beyond that: technologies such as telesurgery—remote surgery performed by experienced surgeons across large distances—are bringing more widespread, specialized care within reach. \n\nDespite increasing technological maturity, this vision still faces practical hurdles in Europe. Ethical and regulatory frameworks, approval processes, and national differences are the main barriers to integrating these technologies into routine clinical practice. One example is the hinotori robotic assistance system from Japan, which illustrates the tension between technological progress and legal certainty in a highly sensitive field.",

"text": "Multidimensional fragility lies at the core of the geopolitical shifts that are disrupting decades long global power equilibria, creating challenges and opportunities that require deep reflection and rapid adaptation across humanitarian, development and peace communities.\n\nThe report analyses the state of fragility in 2025, how it shapes global structural trends, current responses to it, and how it is perceived and tackled by the people most exposed to its impact: the 2 billion people in contexts with high and extreme fragility that account for 25% of the world’s population but 72% of the world’s extreme poor. Maintaining a focus on the furthest behind is more critical than ever for development partners, as a global good and a geostrategic necessity.\n\nOECD (2025), States of Fragility 2025, OECD Publishing, Paris, https://doi.org/10.1787/81982370-en.",

"about": "The article examines how trust influences sustainable critical minerals mining in Ghana and Australia, highlighting key trust factors and policy approaches for just transitions in both contexts.",
"text": "This paper examines the role of trust in critical minerals mining as a key component of achieving a just energy transition, using Ghana and Australia as case studies. As critical minerals become central to the global shift from fossil fuels to low-carbon energy, concerns grow about environmental harm, greenwashing, and neocolonial exploitation—especially in the Global South. The study highlights that building trust with local communities requires more than a social license to operate; it involves inclusive decision-making, strong ESG standards, and transparent governance. Drawing on interdisciplinary data, the authors argue that trust is vital for sustainable mining practices and supply chain stability. The paper offers insights into how trust can be nurtured at local, national, and international levels, with implications for policy and future research.",

"text": "International business expert Erin Meyer helps readers understand and navigate cultural differences in this insightful and practical guide, which is perfect for both work and personal life. Americans precede anything negative with three nice comments; French, Dutch, Israelis, and Germans get straight to the point; Latin Americans and Asians are steeped in hierarchy; Scandinavians think the best boss is just one of the crowd. It's no surprise that when these different groups try and talk to each other, chaos breaks out. In The Culture Map is a great guide through this subtle, sometimes treacherous terrain in which people from starkly different backgrounds are expected to work harmoniously together. Erin Meyer provides a field-tested model for decoding how cultural differences impact international business, and combines a smart analytical framework with practical, actionable advice.\r\n\r\nISBN electronic: 9781669343530",

These partnerships enrich UNICEF's programs in both development and humanitarian contexts, ensuring that child-related issues are deeply rooted in the communities, networks, groups, and causes championed by civil society.\r\n\r\nThis publication has been developed to promote understanding of UNICEF’s partnership principles, processes and practices among both current and prospective civil society partners. It is aligned with UNICEF’s internal procedure that applies to all UNICEF offices when partnering with and transferring resources to CSOs, and it is an update of the previous CSO Facing Handbook following the release of the new programme implementation procedures in 2022. \r\n\r\nThe handbook describes each step of the partnership and the relevant tools to use. It is hoped that it supports the timely establishment of high-quality, results-focused partnerships.",

This will de-risk wave energy technology, making it insurable and bankable, so that it can be deployed at large scale and play a significant role in decarbonising the EU's energy supply and advance energy security. The project will translate the EU's technology leadership in ocean energy into supply chain dominance by helping scale EU supply chain capacity, supporting strategic autonomy.\n\nThe project builds on results from CorPower’s structured development programme, which has seen an individual WEC demonstrated in open-sea in Northern Portugal since 2023. Multiples of these WECs will be demonstrated along with farm-level demonstration of control systems, electrical architecture, anchoring, and offshore operations and maintenance methodologies.",

Funding levels to solve crises and its impacts have slumped - crisis-affected countries have seen severe cuts in development assistance, peacebuilding and humanitarian funding.\n\nThe report further shows how violations of IHL can lead to increased displacement and also influence on displacement dynamics.",

In a recently published article, researchers led by Robert Jnglin Wills, Professor of Climate Dynamics at ETH Zurich, simulated and compared the climate impact of three global reforestation scenarios in a complex Earth system model for the first time.\n\nThe results were astounding: although the reforested area differed by 450 million hectares, two of the scenarios examined achieved almost the same global cooling effect. The difference corresponds to an area roughly the size of all EU countries combined.\n\nThe greatest potential for a cooling effect on the local and global climate is in the tropics, especially in the Amazon basin and in West and South-East Africa.",

The initiative, launched by Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority and the International Fund for Animal Welfare, uses GPS collars and the EarthRanger platform to monitor elephant movements in real time.\n\nLocal volunteers like Capon Sibanda receive alerts when elephants approach communities and warn residents, even cycling to reach those without phones. The system is already reducing conflict by allowing quicker responses, though tensions remain over crop damage and limited local benefits from trophy hunting.\n\nWith over 45,000 elephants in Hwange but space for only 15,000, collaring just 16 matriarchs is a small step. "about": "In an era characterized by the increasing dominance of digital platforms, retail strategies have taken on new dimensions to meet evolving customer expectations. One of these is the rise of omnichannel retailing strategies, such as BOPIS, ROPIS, and BORIS",
"text": "These strategies are revolutionizing the way retailers operate, and consumers shop.\nBOPIS (Buy Online, Pickup in Store), combines the convenience of online shopping with the immediacy of brick-and-mortar stores, allowing customers to browse and buy online and then pick up their purchases in-store. Customers choose this when they are sure about the product they are buying.\nROPIS (Reserve Online, Pickup in Store), on the other hand, provides the opportunity for customers to reserve their desired item online before heading to the store to finalize their purchase. This means the final decision of whether to buy the item or not happens in the store after trying or checking out the product.\nLastly, BORIS (Buy Online, Return in Store) offers customers the option to return online purchases in-store, providing a quicker and more convenient way to process refunds or exchanges.\nThis blog by Increff, the most preferred retail SaaS partner, explores these strategies in detail.",

"text": "In 2022, global democracy faced challenges like the Russia's invasion of Ukraine and coups in Burkina Faso, but also saw democracies collectively defending human rights against authoritarian regimes, with a notable slowdown in the erosion of freedoms. The 50th anniversary of the Freedom in the World report highlights a 17-year decline in global freedom but suggests a potential turning point as the gap narrows between improvements and declines. Despite authoritarian threats, the year demonstrated the fallibility of autocrats, while persistent infringement on freedom of expression remains a key driver of democratic decline. The fight for freedom, ongoing for decades, underscores the resilience of democracies, with the number of Free countries increasing from 44 to 84 over 50 years.",

"name": "Constraints on the impactor flux to the Earth–Moon system from oxygen isotopes of the lunar regolith (2026) | by Anthony M. Gargano and others for PNAS",
"about": "For a long time, scientists assumed that Earth's water was delivered by asteroids and comets billions of years ago. However, recent findings from the analysis of lunar rocks and regolith returned by the Apollo missions have cast doubt on this assumption.",
"text": "Lunar regolith preserves the most complete long-term record of impact debris in the Earth–Moon system, spanning nearly 4 billion years. Traditional methods using siderophile elements are often obscured by repeated impacts and melting, making it hard to identify impactor type and mass. This study instead uses triple oxygen isotope measurements, which are more resistant to such overprints. \r\n\r\nThe results show that lunar regolith contains about 1 wt% of partially evaporated material similar to CM chondrites (or possibly ureilites), accumulated over billions of years. This impactor flux would have delivered only a negligible amount of water to Earth—far too little to explain Earth’s oceans—so a late meteoritic addition is unlikely to be the main source of Earth’s water. However, the same flux is sufficient to account for most of the water stored in permanently shadowed lunar cold traps.",
