"name": "University of Szeged: Novel SZTE Method Offers a New Route to Reducing CO₂ Emissions",
"about": "Keeping CO₂ produced by industrial facilities out of the atmosphere while converting it into useful raw materials for the chemical industry – this is the climate-relevant and commercially promising objective pursued by researchers at the University.",
"text": "Dealing with climate change remains one of humanity’s greatest challenges, driven in part by the steadily rising concentration of carbon dioxide (CO₂) in the atmosphere – a trend closely linked to human activity, especially the use of fossil fuels and their combustion. At the same time, the electrochemical conversion of CO₂ presents a dual opportunity: it can help reduce emissions from industrial sources while also generating valuable raw materials for the chemical industry.\n\nThis ambitious project, which also received the University’s Innovation Award, has demonstrated that cobalt oxide can successfully replace iridium as an anode catalyst in CO₂ electrolysis. This represents a significant advance, as iridium is not only extremely expensive but also scarce. The research team is now working to further improve the efficiency of the process by incorporating additional transition metals.",

"about": "Kenya’s community-based solar mini-grids electrify remote areas, driving economic growth, healthcare, and education. Projects like Kalobeyei show how local clean energy empowers communities, boosts incomes, and moves Kenya toward universal access.",
"text": "Kenya’s green mini-grids are transforming rural electrification by providing sustainable, decentralized power to remote communities historically underserved by the national grid. Solar-powered systems like those built by LITES and supported by projects like KOSAP are boosting local economies, extending business hours, improving healthcare, and enhancing education. The Kalobeyei Settlement in Turkana County is a prime example—expanding from 60 kWp to 541 kWp, now serving over 2,700 customers with clean energy. Policies like the 2019 Energy Act enable this growth, but faster licensing, financing, and standards are needed. By empowering communities as energy producers and managers, Kenya’s mini-grids foster local jobs, skills, and sustainability, making universal access by 2030 realistic. These systems are more than power—they spark social and economic transformation, showing a model for Africa’s clean energy future.",

"text": "The video “Key Tech Breakthroughs Boost China's Hydrogen Energy Industry” explores how China is rapidly advancing its hydrogen sector through major technological innovations. One of the key areas of progress is in renewable hydrogen production. China is ramping up its capacity to produce green hydrogen—hydrogen generated using renewable electricity such as wind and solar—with national goals to produce between 100,000 to 200,000 tons annually by 2025. This could help reduce carbon emissions by 1 to 2 million tons per year, aligning with its decarbonization strategy.\n\nAnother major breakthrough involves the development of carbon-fiber high-pressure storage tanks, which can triple the hydrogen storage density compared to older designs. These tanks improve safety and increase driving range for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.",

The announcement of the accessory is a major milestone in its long-term partnership with The Ocean Cleanup. Since 2022, Kia’s support of the non-profit organization, which is dedicated to developing and scaling technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic, has been a key part of the brand’s ongoing transformation into a leading provider of sustainable mobility solutions.\r\n\r\nTaking inspiration from Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy, the trunk liner’s ‘geometric wave’ top surface pattern is reminiscent of waves and the flow of trash into a collecting area, echoing The Ocean Cleanup’s process for extracting marine plastic. Made with 40% recycled ocean plastic*, the high-quality trunk liner is just as durable, protective and functional as a conventional trunk liner.",

But the high tides are getting more extreme, resulting in what they call ‘king tides.’ Now, walls are no longer a permanent solution. So how can Kiribati be saved? There have been discussions of an artificial replacement island or filling in some of the 33 islands. But, even though the disaster has been looming for years, these solutions are only theoretical. And the government has remained tight-lipped on which solution it prefers. Meanwhile, residents are repairing their walls and hoping for support from overseas.",

"text": "The Pacific Ocean is the largest and deepest ocean on Earth. It covers more than 30% of the planet's surface and, in fact, the Pacific is even larger than the combined landmass covering the entire Earth. Not only is the Pacific huge, but it is also the deepest. The Mariana Trench, located in the Pacific Ocean, is the deepest trench known on Earth and has several deep points. Furthermore, the Pacific is also considered one of the most dangerous places on the planet, around 90% of the world's earthquakes and approx 75% of the world's volcanoes occur within this region. Additionally, the Pacific Ocean is home to most of the islands in the world. Some of these islands serve as strategic locations for military bases. These bases often play a critical role in monitoring and controlling major maritime trade routes that pass through the Pacific.",

"about": "Known for her intensely tactile sculptural works, acclaimed Afro-Brazilian artist Sonia Gomes combines found objects, textiles, and natural materials to create evocative forms that tell stories of resilience, transformation, and everyday beauty.",
"text": "Outdoors, Gomes’s first-ever outdoor installation, Ó Abre Alas!, comprises vibrant, rhythmically charged sculptures fabricated from durable materials like paracord, fishing nets, and nautical ropes, hanging from the branches of a nearby tree. This ambitious new work marks a bold evolution in her practice, expanding her intimate, hand-stitched gestures into a sweeping dialogue with the natural world. For Gomes, this setting is an essential collaborator: “My work has a lot to do with nature, with trees, with the movement of trunks, with branches…. I like that my work has this conversation with nature.” The vibrant hues of the outdoor sculpture echo the Carnival spirit of abre-alas (Portuguese for “open wings”)—a reference to the lead float in a Brazilian Carnival parade, which paves the way for celebration. The title also nods to the 1899 composition by Chiquinha Gonzaga, a pioneering Afro-Brazilian musician who bridged classical and popular traditions.",
