"text": "The European Nuclear Energy Forum (ENEF) offers a unique platform for in-depth dialogue on the opportunities and challenges of nuclear energy. Traditionally organised by the European Commission in collaboration with the host country, this year’s edition will be held in Bratislava, Slovak Republic.\r\n\r\nThe 2025 conference marks the 18th edition of ENEF. It will once again serve as a forum for open and transparent discussions on nuclear energy’s role in Europe’s future and will begin with a high-level dinner, followed by the main conference programme on 7 October 2025.\r\n\r\nThe event will provide a platform for exchanging views on ensuring safe, reliable, and predictable long-term operation of the existing nuclear fleet. For the first time, ENEF also aims to foster an open and inclusive intergenerational dialogue between younger generation and senior professionals, focusing on challenges and opportunities of the nuclear ecosystem.",

Its altitudinal range from 2,231 to 12,730 feet creates diverse climates and habitats that support iconic species, including the Andean bear, mountain tapir, puma, and royal sunangel hummingbird. By maintaining ecosystem integrity, the corridor provides critical services such as water supply, carbon capture, and soil fertility, benefiting local communities and supporting hydropower. The initiative reflects collaboration among provincial governments, Indigenous groups, NGOs, universities, and international partners, reinforcing transboundary conservation commitments and demonstrating the importance of protecting landscapes for both biodiversity and human well-being.",

"text": "Glaciers across High Mountain Asia are losing over 22 gigatons of ice annually, driven by both warming and shifts in South Asian monsoon patterns. Changes in timing, intensity, and type of precipitation—less snowfall, more rainfall—accelerate melting, especially in the Central, Western, and Eastern Himalayas. \n\nThis threatens water security for more than 1.4 billion people relying on glacier-fed rivers for agriculture, hydropower, and drinking water. Faster retreat also increases risks of glacial lake outburst floods, landslides, and river flooding, posing immediate threats to lives and infrastructure. Satellite data and hydrological records reveal glacier losses correspond to altered precipitation patterns, with retreat cycles matching 3–8-year natural monsoon variability. \n\nResearchers stress the urgent need for denser monitoring networks and improved observation systems to anticipate impacts and guide adaptation strategies.",

Securing these resources demands a bold, modern strategy–one that is market-led, environmentally and socially responsible, builds capacity in both production and processing, and works with allies while also forging new geopolitical alliances with resource-rich Global South countries. The Critical Minerals Security Program will build upon CSIS’s longstanding work with policymakers on both sides of the aisle to support market-led efforts to expand production and processing capabilities to improve domestic and global security. With a new paradigm, the United States can enable its diplomats, policymakers, and private sector actors to develop a secure supply chain and meet the mineral needs of the 21st century",

"about": "It combines field-based research, leadership development, and hands-on study in environmental science, archaeology, and geospatial technology, preparing students for careers in natural resource management, conservation, and related fields.",
"text": "The Expedition Science program integrates scientific research, field-based expeditions, and leadership development through experiential learning. Expedition Science embraces contemporary science and technical skills in disciplines of environmental science, geospatial information science and technology (GIST), outdoor leadership, and archaeology. Expedition Science field projects allows the student to travel and study in Wyoming’s most remote deserts and mountains for extended periods of time. A student may perform research in paleoecology to reconstruct past human and physical environments, or apply contemporary ecological study to the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Field options include alpine glaciology, high-elevation archaeology, and the ecology of extreme environments. In each subject area, the student will apply field and classroom research techniques to contemporary environmental and anthropological questions.",

Founded in 1999 by Ralph Carlson of Suquamish, Washington, EcoTeach has facilitated over 5,000 guided tours across Costa Rica, Mexico, Peru, and Alaska. These trips focus on environmental education, community-based conservation, and cultural immersion, aiming to foster a deeper understanding of global ecological issues. \n\nEcoTeach's programs are tailored to various groups, including students, educators, and families. In Costa Rica, for instance, participants can engage in activities such as turtle protection efforts, home stays with local families, river rafting, and zip-line canopy tours. These experiences are led by experienced naturalists who guide participants through real-world conservation projects and cultural interactions.",

"name": "Consumer-based Carbon Costs: Integrating Consumer Carbon Preferences in Electricity Markets | by Wenqian Jiang and others for arXiv",
"about": "An increasing share of consumers care about the carbon footprint of their electricity. This paper proposes to integrate consumer carbon preferences in the electricity market-clearing through consumer-based carbon costs.",
"text": "Specifically, consumers can submit not only bids for power but also assign a cost to the carbon emissions incurred by their electricity use. The approach starts from a centralized market clearing that maximizes social welfare under consideration of generation costs, consumer utility and consumer carbon costs. An equivalent equilibrium formulation is then derived which incorporates a carbon allocation problem and gives rise to a set of carbon-adjusted electricity prices for both consumers and generators. It is proven that the carbon-adjusted prices are higher for low-emitting generators and consumers with high carbon costs. The paradigm maintains key market properties of locational marginal pricing, including revenue adequacy and individual rationality. A generator carbon tax proves equivalent to a uniform consumer carbon cost. Case studies with a three-bus and RTS-GMLC system show that consumer-based carbon costs foster greener market outcomes through redispatch and demand cuts.",
