However, this legacy has weakened in the 1990s during the period of neoliberal economic restructuring, supported by part of the former anti-communist opposition. This article documents some traces of the revival of this collaboration in the 2010s and 2020s, based on available literature, documents and author's experiences from several projects and initiatives in which he was involved.\r\n\r\nIn the first part of the article, the history of the relations between sociologists and trade unions in Poland is briefly presented with reference to the division of sociological labour into public, professional, policy and critical sociology proposed by Burawoy (2005). The second part discusses the cooperation between sociologists and larger trade unions.", "link_original": "https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/03098168251342953", "status": 2, "country": [ { "id": 179, "name": "Poland", "icon": "" } ], "sections": [ { "id": 245, "name": "Civil movements in the private sector" } ], "root_section": { "id": 207, "name": "New Global Community" }, "is_photo": true, "is_video": false, "is_large_font": false, "show_in_news_list": false, "url_to_show_in_news_list": "", "location_filters": { "countries": [ { "id": 179, "name": "Poland" } ], "regions": [ { "id": 3, "name": "Europe" } ] }, "filters": [] }, { "id": "2eb122b8-d662-49d2-bfaa-dca0b0e5cf16", "slug": "green-deal-biotechnology-conference-2025-26-28-may-aveiro-portugal-post", "created_at": "2025-05-26T09:17:59Z", "views": 62, "name": "Green Deal Biotechnology Conference 2025 (26-28 May, Aveiro, Portugal)", "about": "The meeting will bring together scientists and professionals from academia and various sectors of industry sharing the common interest in resource recovery and environmental biotechnology for development of new technologies supporting bioeconomy.", "text": "This conference will cover a wide range of topics, including:\r\n- Innovative solutions in soil bioremediation and wastewater treatment\r\n- Biotechnological valorization of marine and other natural resources\r\n- Sustainability of environmental biotechnology solutions\r\n- Biotechnological approaches to nutrient cycling balances\r\n- Stepping-up biotechnological approaches via industrial symbiosis\r\n- AI and genome editing - friends or foes in environmental biotechnology?\r\n\r\nOrganized by the EFB Environmental Biotechnology Division", "link_original": "https://www.efbiotechnology.org/green_deal", "status": 2, "country": [ { "id": 180, "name": "Portugal", "icon": "" } ], "sections": [ { "id": 143, "name": "The future of biotech and pharma" } ], "root_section": { "id": 51, "name": "Industrial Revolution" }, "is_photo": true, "is_video": false, "is_large_font": false, "show_in_news_list": false, "url_to_show_in_news_list": "", "location_filters": { "countries": [ { "id": 180, "name": "Portugal" } ], "regions": [ { "id": 3, "name": "Europe" } ] }, "filters": [ { "id": 22, "name": "Events", "badge_name": "Event", "show_badge": false, "children": [], "all_children": true, "all_children_ids": "" } ] }, { "id": "2eb7158e-25b5-4117-8ab7-9bad4cf3e19f", "slug": "unido-switzerland-expands-support-for-unido-programmes-to-drive-eco-industrial-park-development-and-industrial-competitiveness-in-ukraine-post", "created_at": "2024-12-02T09:05:58.876818Z", "views": 32, "name": "UNIDO: Switzerland expands support for UNIDO programmes to drive eco-industrial park development and industrial competitiveness in Ukraine", "about": "The UNIDO and the Governments of Switzerland and Ukraine have marked a new phase in their partnership to drive sustainable industrialization and support Ukraine’s integration into global markets.", "text": "A launch ceremony at UNIDO headquarters marked Switzerland's CHF 4.5 million contribution through SECO to the Global Eco-Industrial Parks Programme (GEIPP) and the Global Quality and Standards Programme (GQSP) in Ukraine, reinforcing the strong partnership between UNIDO and Switzerland and their commitment to Ukraine's recovery, sustainable industrialization, and economic resilience.\n\nStarting in 2025, the 2nd phase of the GEIPP will focus on energy and resource efficiency and circular economy approaches, while modernizing Ukraine's manufacturing base. Originally it was a limestone cave that started to form about 150,000 years ago. Gradually the water level rose as the glacial period ended and the caves were flooded and its roof collapsed, thus forming this unique hole. The hole was made popular by French explorer Jacques-Yves Cousteau who declared it “one of the top ten dive sites in the world.” Looking from above, the dark blue color of the hole signifies that it has a great depth, especially compared to the shallow waters nearby.\r\nIts deepest point lies at 124 m. The hole has an almost perfect circular shape and it is 300 m wide. Through practices such as resource extraction, regulatory capture, and political lobbying, TNCs have entrenched themselves in key sectors of developing economies, often dictating policy priorities and undermining democratic accountability. Drawing from postcolonial theory and critical international political economy, the article argues that this dominance reflects a modern form of economic imperialism—what can be termed “neo-colonialism.” Far from being neutral economic actors, TNCs operate within a global system structured by unequal power relations and historical patterns of exploitation. The article calls for a rethinking of development partnerships, emphasizing stronger regional regulatory frameworks, local ownership, and alternative economic models that center the agency and autonomy of Global South states.", "link_original": "https://advance.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.31124/advance.174773368.85240931/v1", "status": 2, "country": [], "sections": [ { "id": 262, "name": "Transnational corporations" } ], "root_section": { "id": 207, "name": "New Global Community" }, "is_photo": false, "is_video": false, "is_large_font": false, "show_in_news_list": false, "url_to_show_in_news_list": "", "location_filters": { "countries": [], "regions": [ { "id": 5, "name": "Asia" }, { "id": 6, "name": "Africa" }, { "id": 2, "name": "South America" }, { "id": 1, "name": "Oceania" } ] }, "filters": [] }, { "id": "2f170792-3a19-4717-aec1-e6a2cdcd8e30", "slug": "the-utilities-for-net-zero-alliance-uneza-post", "created_at": "2026-03-21T11:59:36Z", "views": 90, "name": "The Utilities for Net Zero Alliance (UNEZA)", "about": "This Alliance unites leading global utilities and power companies with the aim of spearheading the development of grids that are ready for renewable energy, promoting clean energy solutions, and advancing electrification efforts.", "text": "UNEZA was established at COP28 with the adoption of the UAE Declaration of Action.
