This study investigates whether such multistability continues in human-managed drylands and examines how water management influences the stabilization of ecosystem states. Focusing on China’s pan-Hexi Corridor—a representative oasis–desert mosaic with a long history of water redistribution—researchers integrated multi-source datasets to quantify an ecosystem-quality index (EQI). By combining natural water availability with composite measures of human-activity intensity, potential-landscape and resilience diagnostics were employed to detect multistability, while regression models were used to identify key drivers and generate projections.\r\n\r\nPotential-landscape analysis revealed the coexistence of two natural low-EQI states, whereas a high-EQI state emerged where water availability and human-activity intensity were sufficient.", "link_original": "https://www.nature.com/articles/s43247-025-03043-0#:~:text=Abstract,and%20domestic%20uses%20are%20negative.", "status": 2, "country": [ { "id": 49, "name": "China", "icon": "" } ], "sections": [ { "id": 46, "name": "Drylands" } ], "root_section": { "id": 108, "name": "Conserving Wild Nature" }, "is_photo": false, "is_video": false, "is_large_font": false, "show_in_news_list": false, "url_to_show_in_news_list": "", "location_filters": { "countries": [ { "id": 49, "name": "China" } ], "regions": [ { "id": 5, "name": "Asia" } ] }, "filters": [], "origin_feature_type": null }, { "id": "7bd686e5-7211-4781-bd54-6f81a8c09b71", "slug": "marine-snow-surface-production-and-bathypelagic-export-at-the-equatorial-atlantic-from-an-imaging-float-by-joelle-habib-and-others-for-biogeosciences-post", "created_at": "2026-02-05T11:03:48Z", "views": 12, "name": "Marine snow surface production and bathypelagic export at the Equatorial Atlantic from an imaging float | by Joelle Habib and others for Biogeosciences", "about": "Habib, J., Stemmann, L., Accardo, A., Baudena, A., Tuchen, F. Sinking of surface-produced particles, known as the Biological Gravity Pump (BGP) constitutes the main component of the BCP. To study the BGP in the equatorial Atlantic upwelling region, a biogeochemical Argo float equipped with an Underwater Vision Profiler 6 camera was deployed from July 2021 to March 2022. The float was recovered after its eastward drift from 23 to 7° W along the equator, during which it conducted profiles to 2000 m depth every 3 d. For the first time in this oceanic region, in situ images and physical and biogeochemical data from a BGC-Argo float were acquired and analyzed in combination with satellite data. During the float trajectory, two blooms were recorded followed by two main export events of sinking aggregates that lasted for over a month, consistently reaching 2000 m depth.", "link_original": "https://bg.copernicus.org/articles/22/7985/2025/bg-22-7985-2025.html", "status": 2, "country": [], "sections": [ { "id": 161, "name": "The Atlantic Ocean" } ], "root_section": { "id": 107, "name": "Life-friendly Earth" }, "is_photo": false, "is_video": false, "is_large_font": false, "show_in_news_list": false, "url_to_show_in_news_list": "", "location_filters": { "countries": [], "regions": [ { "id": 8, "name": "The Atlantic Ocean" } ] }, "filters": [], "origin_feature_type": null }, { "id": "4dbb0dc3-696b-4c9a-85ac-dfc2a45a3a23", "slug": "2026-study-uncovers-why-our-green-habits-disappear-on-vacation-and-what-we-can-do-about-it-sustainability-and-travel-travel-and-tour-world-post", "created_at": "2026-02-05T10:57:32.826256Z", "views": 9, "name": "2026 Study Uncovers Why Our Green Habits Disappear on Vacation and What We Can Do About It: Sustainability and Travel | Travel and Tour World", "about": "The study finds that travelers often abandon eco-friendly habits due to “vacation place identity,” and that pre-trip reminders of home routines can help maintain sustainable behaviors while on vacation.", "text": "A University of Queensland study reveals that eco-conscious travelers often abandon sustainable behaviors while on vacation due to a psychological shift called “vacation place identity,” which makes them feel freer, less accountable, and less bound by their home routines.\n\nThe research shows that traditional guilt-based prompts during trips are largely ineffective. Instead, pre-trip interventions that remind travelers of their home habits can help maintain eco-friendly behaviors while away, such as conserving water, reducing waste, or choosing sustainable transportation and accommodations.\n\nWith tourism contributing nearly 9% of global carbon emissions, even small sustainable choices can have a significant environmental impact.
