"name": "The statistical and dynamic modeling of the first part of the 2013-2014 Euromaidan protests in Ukraine: The Revolution of Dignity and preceding times | by Yassin Bahid and others for arXiv",
"about": "Ukraine's tug-of-war between Russia and the West has had significant and lasting consequences for the country. In 2013, Viktor Yanukovych, the Ukrainian president aligned with Russia, opted against signing an association agreement with the European Union.",
"text": "This agreement aimed to facilitate trade and travel between the EU and Ukraine. The decision sparked widespread protests that coalesced in Kyiv's Maidan Square, eventually becoming known as the Euromaidan protests. In this study, the authors analyze the protest data from 2013, sourced from Ukraine's Center for Social and Labor Research. Despite the dataset's limitations and occasional inconsistencies, the analysis demonstrates the extraction of valuable insights and the construction of a descriptive model from such data. The investigation reveals a pre-existing state of self-excitation within the system even before the onset of the Euromaidan protests. This self-excitation intensified during the Euromaidan protests. Statistical analysis indicates that the government's utilization of force correlates with increased future protests, exacerbating rather than quelling the protest movement.",

The publication gives answer the question: Is it geologic forces that lift up rock that is then destroyed by rain, ice, erosion and weathering? \r\nThe movie shows the role of the \"green layer\". The main points in movie gives understand how plants with their roots, animals that dig into soil and microorganisms shape the landscapes. Moreover, explains how minerals, soil, and water determine the environment for them to live in.\r\nThe movie also deals with the question of how live and the geosphere can resist climate change.\r\nThe publication studies these questions in Chile, in the National Parks Pan de Azúcar, La Campana, and Nahuelbuta. Also, from the dry Atacama desert to dense forests.",

Derived from the Latin \"sustinere\" (to support), it means sustaining life and protecting our planet. As the proverb says, “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.”",

This is recognizing that there is a problem and that it needs to be addressed, understanding the fragility of our environment and the importance of its protection, not just for the present but for the future. The 2nd stage is gaining an understanding through education. The 3rd stage is evaluation, we have to evaluate our personal impact and identity opportunities for improvement. The 4th stage of sustainability enlightenment is action. This is implementing changes in one's own life, such as traveling less by car, eating sustainably sourced food, or offsetting the existing footprint with tree planting. The 5th stage is advocacy, once you have gained all your knowledge you naturally become an advocate for the cause. The sixth stage of sustainability enlightenment is continual improvement.",

"text": "Recently, the climate change and population growth further stressed the scarce freshwater resources around the world and resulted in a severe water shortage for around 4 billion people. The water utilities address the water shortage by providing alternative source of water, supply intermittently, and even bulk water delivery. However, the quality of the water delivered to the consumers could be threatened if the safety measures were not in place. \nThat is why this document provides a holistic review of the significant hazards associated with the practices employed by the water utilities and water consumers to alleviate the potable water shortage and discusses the required monitoring and mitigation practices. Planning for effective water management and distribution is vital to ensure reliable access to sufficient, safe water. The rapidly declining freshwater resources and aging water infrastructure in numerous created hardship for many water utilities addressing the regular water demand",

Such transition, aided by services, will lessen dependence on imported fossil fuels and exposure to price fluctuations. It can result in a more diverse energy system that is less susceptible to market disruptions and offers enhanced energy resilience and security. The note supplies background on links between trade in services, science, technology, innovation, and energy transition, the scope of which provides room for experts to engage in a creative and comprehensive dialogue. One area of focus for experts may revolve around exploring how the trading system and trade policies can be harmoniously integrated with other policies to advance the role of trade in services in the context of energy transition, particularly in terms of promoting economic diversification in developing nations",

This study investigates the impact of natural resource rents—specifically Coal Rents (CR), Forest Rents (FR), Natural Gas Rents (NGR), and Oil Rents (OR)—on SDG performance in four South Asian countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan, over the period 2002–2023. Using balanced panel data, the analysis applies Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) and Panel Quantile Regression (PQR) techniques to examine both average and distributional effects. \r\n\r\nThe findings reveal that NGR and OR have a statistically significant and positive impact on the SDGs across all quantiles, indicating their consistent role in promoting sustainable development. In contrast, FR shows a negative association with SDGs at lower quantiles, suggesting potential trade-offs between forest exploitation and sustainability.",

The demographic situation varies across Member States: in many Eastern countries, migration accelerates population loss, while in some Western and Northern countries it slows or temporarily prevents decline. This report examines how fertility and migration, and their interaction, shape population changes in the EU, focusing on movements within and from outside the EU. Findings indicate that with an aging population and a shrinking proportion of young people, most Member States are on track for population decline in the coming decades, even if fertility rates improve in the short term. Although positive net migration lowers the fertility rate needed to maintain population levels, only a few Member States currently reach this threshold.",

"about": "'The Rising Risk of a Global Food Crisis,' authored by Daniel Aminetzah and Nicolas Denis and published on McKinsey and Company's website, explores the increasing threat of a global food crisis.",
"text": "The article highlights the potential impact of the war in Ukraine on the global food supply and discusses possible solutions to mitigate the risks. The authors emphasize that the war in Ukraine is disrupting crucial components of the global food supply chain, amplifying existing challenges within the system.\nThey assert that the instability caused by the Russia-Ukraine war is reverberating throughout the food supply chain and will likely have secondary effects on other major agricultural regions.\nNotably, Ukraine plays a significant role in global wheat exports (30 percent) and sunflower production (65 percent), making any disruptions in supply influential in price dynamics.\nIn conclusion, the article raises awareness about the pressing need to address the potential global food crisis and underscores the importance of understanding different scenarios and stakeholder reactions in formulating effective solutions.",

While Brazil leads in GDP, countries like Guyana excel in GDP per capita, thanks to its booming oil industry. Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay shine in human development with strong education, healthcare, and social policies. Brazil remains the continent's largest economy at $2.3 trillion, but challenges like poverty and inequality persist. Argentina, though rich in natural resources, struggles with inflation. Peru’s economy is bolstered by mining, while Uruguay stands out for its stability and high quality of life. GDP, GDP per capita, HDI, and economic stability are key metrics for ranking wealth. The future of South America’s prosperity lies in balancing growth with sustainability, human capital investment, and social stability.",

"text": "The shift toward aggressive industrial policy marks a structural change in how states shape global markets. Since 2020, major economies have doubled their interventions, directing massive fiscal support toward sectors tied to security—semiconductors, clean energy, batteries, and critical minerals. \n\nThese moves have triggered a global chain reaction, pushing other governments to escalate their own strategies in a defensive race to safeguard supply chains and technological capabilities. As policy tools converge across rich and emerging economies, the motivations behind them diverge, blurring distinctions between fair competition and distortion. For multinational firms, expanding state involvement reshapes decisions about where to invest, produce, and innovate, tying market access to political alignment as much as performance. Globalization endures, but increasingly as a system guided less by efficiency and more by strategic priorities defined by governments.",

It showcases the sheer scale of the problem, illustrating how plastic waste accumulates in vast ocean gyres, forming floating islands of debris. The video emphasizes the dangers posed by plastic ingestion, entanglement, and the release of harmful chemicals as plastics degrade. It features footage of marine animals suffering from the effects of plastic pollution, serving as a stark reminder of the urgent need for action. The narrative stresses the importance of reducing plastic consumption, promoting recycling and sustainable alternatives, and supporting initiatives aimed at cleaning up existing plastic waste in our oceans. "name": "The reality of extracting valuable Minerals from asteroids: a prospect within the next two decades",
"about": "The recent publication by Mining Technology suggests that in the near future, mining activities may extend to space bodies, potentially causing economic challenges for developing nations, particularly those heavily reliant on mineral exports (Sept.13,2023)",
"text": "The asteroid belt has significant astronomical value of mineral resources. Some countries like India & China invest heavily in space exploration, in finding the potential economic benefits of mining asteroids for valuable minerals. However, there are the potential risks for current raw material exporters such as the Democratic Republic of Congo and Indonesia, whose economies heavily rely on cobalt and nickel production. The in the publication raises concerns about a possible global surplus leading to a collapse in market prices and calls for thoughtful regulation to protect nations dependent on mineral exports once asteroid mining becomes a reality. The need for proactive measures to address the impact on global mineral markets is underscored, emphasizing the inevitability of asteroid mining and its potential implications. The article explores the significant impact asteroid mining could have on resource-rich developing economies, particularly nations heavily dependent on mineral",

"text": "In this Our Changing Climate environmental video essay, I look at the real problem with GMO food, also known as Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). Specifically, we look at whether GMOs and GMO foods are actually bad both for the environment and for your health. GMOs and genetically modified food like soybeans or corn have long raised the ire of non-GMO food activists because they are supposedly frankenfood that will poison us, as a result, they embrace organic foods. GMO advocates champion genetically modified food as a way to combat climate change, solve environmental issues, and solve world hunger. There are truths and fallacies both of the extremes of the GMO debate, but the reality is, and really the core problem with GMOs is not the technology or the genetically modified food itself, but what GMOs and genetically modified foods are used and controlled. Monsanto's BT and HT crops are a perfect example of how GMO foods are used to create monopolies of environmental destruction.",

"text": "There are metallic deposits scattered throughout our ocean floors — among hydrothermal vents, under the crust of seamounts, and scattered along sea plains in the form of rocks. As it happens, in our search for climate solutions, these metals have become more critical than ever to help us transition away from fossil fuels. We need them for everything like electric car batteries, copper wiring for electrification and wind turbines. Our land-based deposits have met our needs so far, but it’s unclear whether they will continue to, or whether we’ll want to keep destroying the environment to do so. \n\nThis video explains the history and the debate over mining metals in the deep sea and why one Canadian company, The Metals Company, is leading the rush there. There are huge environmental implications for digging up seafloor ecosystems as well as ethical ones: Metal-rich zones like the Clarion-Clipperton Zone lie in international waters that technically belong to everyone.",
